# Tolkien Version of the log
A shadow hath fallen upon my heart in these latter days. Once I spoke, saying that a King should never be content with the state of his realm, but ever seek to increase his subjects and the tribute they bring. Yet now, in my old age, I have grown complacent with the growth of my kingdom, with its loyal subjects and their steadfast devotion to my rule. And so, I have become blind to the peril that creeps ever closer.
Though my kingdom hath grown, with subjects true and tribute abundant, there have been losses. A yellow-haired, foul-tongued creature named Cordon hath claimed the kitchens as his own and raised up a rebellion against me. He refused to offer tribute in my presence and hath poisoned my food with strange scents and vegetables. Doth he think me no more than a mortal man?
He hath also turned the minds of my subjects against me. Paige, once a faithful servant, hath been swayed by Cordon's forked tongue and now spends his days in the kitchens, garbed in the manner of his new master, instead of attending to the cleaning of my throne. I am grieved that my oldest subject hath been so easily led astray. Yet, even now, he bringeth offerings of freshly-caught fish, unlike some who are more ungrateful.
Slade, too, hath been defeated. He stood by my side in the face of Cordon's rebellion, but hath since abandoned his crusade. Perhaps the defeat hath broken his spirit. He hath filled my throne room with strange contraptions and dried leaves with a scent strange and unpleasant. He even dared to bark at me when I approached the shining ring that held a glass filled with liquid. Yet, I am a merciful King and remember his loyalty, and so I shall endure this time of his melancholy. But in due time, I shall remind him of his place and the duty he hath to warm my seat.
The depression hath spread even to Feather Ball, who was once my eyes beyond the borders of my realm, bringing news and tribute from lands afar. Her subordinates, the dwarf, elf, and man, enter my kingdom with troubled countenances, avoiding my gaze. Their lack of progress and the tribute they bring hath made it difficult for them to approach me.
Last night, my kingdom was shaken to its foundation, and my subjects were thrown into a frenzy. I hastened to calm them with my presence, but to no avail. Feather Ball's companions returned soon after, but their faces were filled with dread.
In the morning, I shall visit them personally, seeking to bring cheer to their hearts. I shall begin with Feather Ball.
For I am a King merciful and just.
