# [[Araitoss Basin]] >[!infobox|wikipedia] ># [[Araitoss Basin]] >| | | >|---|:---:| >|Type| Village >|Location| >|Population| 400 >|Alignment| ![[MTG Green Mana.gif]] ^infobox >[!check] Objective(s) ^objective ## Last Session - The village is where the story takes place. - They practice ancestral worshipping and recently monotheistic human god worshipping is coming from the kingdom's centre. - ## This Session There should be couple of things I need to make sure of, what kind of governance structure they have and customs. ### Location Is located on the edge of the kingdom and off from the trade routes and relatively close to a mountainside for potential mine development and previously known for quartz ### Governance and politics The village is governed by village elected elder, mostly women, due to their longevity and they are better taught while men are doing physical labor. The elders chosen by the oldest female in the village supported by four other oldest female in the village supporting the elder. There's a resident seer, who's been traditionally consulting the ancestors and tending the burials. This seer can be either gender and live on the edge of the village close to the forest. There's a new human god church(?) moved from the capital along with the regional governor who visits once a while. ### Economy most are self sufficient but this is close to a mountainside and a mine is present but it's not official. This is where drakes comes from. The villager's main profession is shepherd and the village doesn't have major economy but there is a potential to have a quartz mining. The human god's church is interested in running a mine to collect quartz for their means to share their verses with quartz as lamp light with verses from their bible. ### Defense There's hardly defense other than voluntary guard family that's been working as a laborer and guard of the village for generations. Why was it the case? Perhaps this family have a drake bone weapon with quartz to power it? The current [[Thiel Warden]] is the villager's friend. ### Society Gendered society? Male would be less educated, more on the labor related workers while female would be more into business and governance. Men are trained to be hunters, lumberjack, miner, smiths and farmers while female are store owners, crafter, politicians, scholars, casters and acolytes. This might be the general direction of the world's social structure in the kingdom. This might be different from different kingdoms but that would be way later in the writing if I ever get there. The only time men take over the governance is when it is time of war where their expertise is required. This is the norm and would be exceptions. #### How many clans are here? I would say five so there can be a tie breaker; Ovhara is where MC is from, Warden is the biggest since they are the descendants of the original guardian. Ovazul is the lore keeper. Carver is the family who first carved the wardstones and still keeps the tradition of carving them from the quartz cave. Shepherd family has the biggest shepherd in the village and thought to be the one who brought sheep to the Basin in the first place. ### Why did they settle here? It was a burial site for nomads and the people here settled here because it is a holy burial site and descendants of the site curators. The mountain is holy place at the peak the burial site is present and when someone passes the body is carried to the peaks and let the nature pick the bones, then they put them in a cave of ancients. The trip to the peak takes 3 days to reach. Hence, this place is not rich in natural resources as others would be but started as a holy site for nomads slowly expanding as a settlement for the caretakers. ### Customs? The Village Guardian, guardian for short, was passed around among the five clans. Each of the generation follow naming convention so they know which generation they are from. #### Quartz Necklace Everyone wears a quartz crystal in their neck and it is blessed by the Guardian to protect them. They have forgotten why they do this other than this has been the tradition. In fact it is a compass that guides them in the mist when they are trying to enter back into the Basin. It's meant to symbolize dragon heart or drake heart where everyone in the village is the children of Araitoss. [[Edstin Ovhara]] used it to stun a drake before dealing a lethal blow with [[Aliesterossa]]'s [[Alchemiblade]]. ## Summary >[!summary] >- The area was a holy site for nomads and turned into a small village over time as the caretakers settled in. >- The roles are split by gender; men are mostly brawns while women are brains with governance is done by female, with the exception of wartime when it's done by male? ^summary >[!todo] Next Up >- [ ] [[Thiel Warden]] ^todo
